Fitness For Any Age!

Well, Hello, and I hope everyone is doing well today.

I'm back here today because it's coming up to my Granny's (I mention her at the beginning of this blog) birthday and because we always had such a HUGE birthday bash for her every year, her birth date is very easy for me to remember.

Every year she would tell us, "Invite everyone! You never know if it's my last one!". Goodness, Granny told us that AT LEAST 20 times! Personally, I think it was her excuse to just have a big bash where everyone paid her plenty of attention that one time a year. It was always so much FUN and Granny loved getting presents.

I digress, (but the memories are wonderful) the point is Granny never let herself FEEL old! She walked every day and she stayed busy. She visited her friends, she made sure that socially she always had a calendar that was full, she shopped, she was just so unstoppable.

Her "attitude" kept her YOUNG! Staying busy kept her body YOUNG! There are lessons to be learned when we know people like her!

Those old corny sayings like "you are only as old as you feel" are the TRUTH! If people would just pay attention and try to incorporate some of those truths in their lives, everyone would be happier and YOUNGER!

My Mom, bless her soul, just has never had the attitude that my granny had. She's only 71, but has been "old" for well over 20 years now. Her health is not good, her mental sharpness could be better, she's not happy with her life. I try to get her to do things, to go places, to smile, and just MOVE A LITTLE, but her excuse is that "she's getting older and her body can't do things she used to". Yes, to an extent that is true, but not wholly. If I could just get her to see what I really mean when I try to get her to do things with me, but she doesn't want to. She's closed her mind and doesn't want to hear it.

I love my Mom, really and truly, but WHEN I decide to get older, I'm going to want to be like Granny, NOT my Mom. I want to be full of life right up to the end, not sitting on a rocking chair in the living room watching the cars go past through the bay window.

Who do YOU want to be like? Are you taking the steps to attain those goals? Do you walk everyday? Are you doing some strength training and eating the right foods? Do you have the mental disposition that your head and your attitude CAN rule your body?

Think about it. As for me, I'm definitely going to be like Granny! :)

Enjoy life, Folks!
Michelle

  1. The reward for health and fitness is that one can enjoy later on in life with more physical energy and a healthier state of being. Even younger people benefit from exercise.
